Welcome

Disabilities, such as loss or reduction in hearing, sight or mobility, are more common and touch more people than many of us previously thought. The 1997 U.S. Census Bureau reports that, at any given time, one in nine children, one in five adults under age 64, and one in two adults over age 65 has a temporary or permanent disability. In today’s world, disability is part of the natural human experience, affecting most people at some point in their lives.

When you consider these facts it is highly likely that Granite State Independent Living’s programs and services will touch you or people you know in New Hampshire. That is why the work of Granite State Independent Living is truly about all of us. Most anyone you ask would agree that everyone shares the desire to live a full and engaged life. At Granite State Independent Living, our mission is to provide the opportunity for all people with a disability to reach their full potential on their terms––to live where they want, to choose who will assist them, to pursue a career, and to travel freely.

Granite State Independent Living's services are vital to everyone in New Hampshire. During the coming years, it is our hope and vision to continue:

  • empowering people to take control of their lives and make decisions in their own best interest;

  • inspiring communities to remove both architectural and attitudinal barriers so that everyone is welcome to participate in community activities; and

  • fostering an environment where any person with a disability can be employed using skills, talents, and insights to make a meaningful contribution to the world around us.

We are very proud of Granite State Independent Living’s accomplishments and we look forward to touching more lives in the future. On behalf of the board of directors and staff of GSIL, we thank you for your support. Please join us on a journey to fulfill our vision of a future that includes everyone and leaves no one behind––because in the end, it’s truly about all of us.
