Peer Support

Connection with other people can be a powerful experience.  If you have an issue or challenge that you would like to share with others, or if you would like the input and feedback on a barrier to independent living that is affecting you, consider joining a Granite State Independent Living peer group in a community near you.

Benefits of joining peer support groups

  • Learn about community resources;
  • Learn about disability issues and tools for independent living
  • Give and receive support
  • Develop connections with others
  • Network in your community

How peer support groups work

Peer groups combine formal meetings with opportunities for informal socializing.  Granite State Independent Living's peer groups differ from traditional peer groups in the following ways:

  • They are "cross-disability," meaning that anyone with a disability of any kind is welcomed.
  • They meet in local communities
  • They are organized and facilitated by group members, not Granite State Independent Living staff
  • All group members are encouraged to participate and contribue to the group as they develop.personal leadership skills

How to get involved

If you would like to join a peer group, send a contact or call 800-826-3700 (888-396-3459 TTY), extension1304 and speak with Pam Locke, Peer Group Coordinator. If you would like to try a group for a meeting or two, feel free to drop by one of our scheduled meetings.
