What are Personal Care Services
Personal care services provide non-medical hands-on assistance with activities of daily living for older adults and adults living with disabilities or other chronic conditions. A personal care worker helps individuals to bathe, dress, eat, and navigate a range of other daily tasks. In essence, the personal care worker does tasks for the individual that they are unable to do for themselves independently because of disability due to disease, trauma, or the natural progression of aging.
Personal care services can be delivered in either a private home, residential care setting, or in some cases an individual’s place of employment. In addition to providing assistance with activities of daily living, personal care workers can assist with housekeeping chores, meal preparation, and medication management. In some cases, personal care workers can also help individuals to go to work and remain engaged in their communities.
Granite State Independent Living’s Personal Care Options
GSIL offers three personal care service programs:
• Personal Care Attendant Program (PCA)
• Personal Care Services Program (PCSP)
• Independent Care Options (ICO)
Each program is self-directed, which allows individuals choice and control of their services.
The power of self-direction with support from GSIL
Although our programs are self-directed this does not mean individuals are alone in managing and directing their services. GSIL gives individuals peace of mind by managing all financial and administrative aspects of the program including:
• Processing new hire employment forms and paperwork;
• Conducting criminal background checks on prospective workers;
• Managing payroll which includes paying applicable taxes;
• Providing worker’s compensation and liability coverage
• Managing unemployment insurance; and
• Managing limited health care benefits for workers.
Our experienced Personal Care Nurses or Personal Care Service Coordinators train individuals or their personal care representative to successfully select, hire, train, and manage their personal care workers and overall program.
GSIL maintains a statewide comprehensive registry of professionals to help individuals locate potential personal care workers. The registry is located on the GSIL website. To access consumers enrolled in our programs must have a password. If you are interested in becoming a personal care worker you can submit your information on the attendant care registry webpage.
Why choose GSIL for your personal care services:
At GSIL, consumer choice is more than a catch-phrase. We are dedicated to true consumer choice, and committed to ensuring that individuals have the tools and resources to fully participate in their lives, families and communities.
