Independent Care Options

The Independent Care Options (ICO) is a self-directed, private pay (self or third party pay) program which allows individuals real choice and control over their personal care services. Examples of a third party can include family members or a private insurance such as long-term care insurance or worker’s compensation insurance.
GSIL’s experienced Personal Care Nurses or Personal Care Service Coordinators design programs tailored to the individual’s needs and lifestyles, and teach individuals to successfully manage their personal care workers and overall program.
ICO services are designed to help individuals maintain independence in their homes, at school or at work, and within their communities. Services may include:
• Bathing, dressing, toileting, and grooming assistance
• Nutrition and hydration assistance
• Light housekeeping, meal preparation and cooking
• Mobility assistance
• Shopping and errand assistance
• Respite care
• Companionship
• Household management assistant
• Transportation to and from medical appointments and community and recreational appointments.
Eligibility
To be eligible for ICO services individuals must:
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Be able to direct their own care; or
• Have a personal care representative who acts on his/her behalf in directing the program.
