Health and Wellness Series
NHNSCIA and GSIL will be kicking off a quarterly Health and Wellness series on Thursday, February 17, 2011 beginning at 12:00 p.m. at 21 Chenell Drive, Concord, NH. The half hour presentation will start at noon and be immediately followed by a question and answer session.
The inspiration for the series evolved from the recent Boston Medical Center Stepping Forward Conference. NHNSCIA and GSIL recognize the need for health and wellness education specifically designed for anyone who may be at risk for health issues which may impede quality of life. The first module is designed to educate individuals about pressure wounds and how to prevent them. These free, educational presentations will be held four times per year.
To register or learn more about this event, please call Mark Race at 1-800-826-3700 ext. 1306 or e-mail him at mrace@gsil.org
Winter Fun Day
In collaboration with the New England Handicapped Sports Association (NEHSA), NHSCIA will host our first Winter Fun Day. On Thursday, March 3, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. members can ski at Mount Sunapee in Newbury, NH.
Participants will meet at the NEHSA lodge at the base of Mount Sunapee where Tom Kersey and his staff will show a video and give an overview of NEHSA’s programs. Then everyone will be fitted for the adaptive skiing equipment being used for the day. From 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. participants will have an opportunity to socialize with peers, family and friends as they enjoy lunch (participants can either bring a lunch or purchase food at the lodge cafeteria). Skiing will take place from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
The cost for the day is $25.00 and can be paid to NEHSA the day of the event. This price includes a lift ticket and two hours of instruction. For people who have never skied, this will be a great experience and opportunity to try something new. Participants who have skied before will have the opportunity to cheer on peers and provide encouragement.
Participants are required to complete forms and medical releases before they ski. For more details, contact Mark Race at 1-800-826-3700 ext. 1306 or mrace@gsil.org
